needlestick accident

hi im new here. just wondering if im gonna get infected with hepa b after being superficially pricked by a needle (ATN) that was used during a procedure in OR last friday (may 6). i had my hep b vaccination just last year but havent taken the booster yet (scheduled on july this year). am i gonna get hepa b? how do i know if im protected by the vax i had? do i need to take hepa IGs? will i continue the booster? im becoming paranoid. pls help me. the patient is positive for hepa b..

The needle stick should have been reported to the facility in which it happened and followed the protocol thereafter. Hep B vaccination usually consists of a series of 3 vaccines, if you have had all 3 you should be protected. Occassionally immunity levels are reached without all 3 injections, so you may still be covered even if you have not recieved all 3. You can easily have a blood titer done to determine your level of resistance to Hep B.

thanks. i have completed 3 doses already and im about to take a booster shot on july. do i need to take immuneglobulin?

You should have your HBV blood work checked soon. I believe it may even be required by OSHA after a needle stick. The Hep B vaccine is only 90-95% effective.

there is a preventative booster for if you come into contact with hep b u can have it injected so it kills the hep b straight away i work in the health field and have often come into contact with these diseases if you go to the doctor and explain what happened he should give it to you and also make plans to make  sure your blood has not become infected. DONT STRESS. even if you did contract hepatitis b your body can also fight it off on it's own so alot of poeple might have hepatitis but only have it for a lil while.

thanks for answering. im becoming more optimistic now. im having my titer checked tomorrow and ill be asking my doctor as well to see what she can do.
