Cancer history in family

My grandfather from father side died with brain cancer in age of 38, his sister had a breast cancer. My both parents and my sister and brother are healthy. I am very worried about the headaches I often get. Do I have an increased cancer risk?

Thank you,
Madita, 25

It may help you to meet with a genetic counselor who can thoroughly review the cancer in your family including detailed information about ages of diagnosis and information about pathology if available.  After reviewing the detailed family history, a genetic counselor will be able to discuss the risks in your family, and what they mean for you.    You can find a genetic counselor in your area through the National Society of Genetic Counselor’s website.   It is also important to see your doctor for any symptoms that you are experiencing for a complete work up, and it is helpful to share your family history information with your physician as well.
