DNA

Hello,
I am trying to find out what Nationality I am.  I was told that my Great Grandfather was 100 percent Native American Indian.    I would love to find out what I am.    I found a few dNA test kits online but I do not know which ones are real.    Can you help me?    What would be the best way to get accurate results?     Also, What would be the least expensive approach?   What could a DNA test really tell you?   And how many generations back can a DNA test get info for?   Thank you

Ancestry testing involves comparing known small variations or genetic markers in a person's DNA to well studied DNA variations and markers from people all over the world to see where a person's ancestors are most likely from.

Ancestry testing typically involves deciphering maternal (from your mother) lineage and paternal (from your father) lineage.

Alternatively, autosomal ancestry testing can involve deciphering autosomal variations (variations present throughout our entire genetic make-up).

There are many different ancestry testing providers online (over 20). Some of them offer maternal and paternal lineage testing, while others offer autosomal testing. Some of them even offer special add-ons such as Native American Ancestry testing. You can find information that compares the different online providers and what they offer through companies like mine, AccessDNA. Hope this information helps!
