The decision to have genetic testing is highly personal and complex. As you already know, CADASIL is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner, which means that every child of an affected person has a 50% chance to also have the condition and develop the symptoms.

We recommend that you meet with a medical geneticist who can perform a physical exam and review your family history and personal history. With a qualfied genetic health professional, you can review the benefits and limitations of genetic testing as well as discuss appropriate disease screening. A medical geneticist can be found at the American College of Medical Genetics website. We wish you and your family the best.
