hi doctor, am planning to get marry very soon. my girl friend very close relative that she s my niece(that is daughter of my elder sister), i request you suggest precautions i have to take after marriage and what will be the problems i may face with children in near future. please help me

We recommend that you meet with a genetic counselor, who can review your personal and family histories in detail, your degree of relationship (the more closely you are related, the higher the odds of having a child with a birth defect), and your ethnic background (some conditions occur more frequently in people of certain ethnicities) in order to provide a risk assessment based on your specific situation.
