Clarify for me please!

I have recently found out that my boyfriend is my mother's first cousins son. So basically, my mothers father & his fathers father were brothers. What relation does that make us, & if we continue our relationship, what are we at risk for if we have children?

I believe it makes you second cousins. If you really like each other, stay with each other. Your children will be at no risk. It was very common in the past to have relationships with first cousins. Your children if you choose to have any will be perfectly normal. So do not worry or let it interfere with your relationship.

I had to really think about the lineage there, but it makes you 3rd cousins... your mother is his father's 1st cousin, making your boyfriend your mom's 2nd cousin, and making you his 3rd cousin.  I think there's enough separation there. I would suggest not stressing about it. Continue with your relationship the way you would have if you never found out, and if marriage and children are discussed in the future, at that time you can worry about seeking genetic counseling.
