Ehlers-Danlos and Spinal Stenosis

Ehlers-Danlos and Spinal Stenosis

EDS runs in my family, primarly the females.  I don't know what specific type at this time.  Issues I have involve hypermobility, hip dysplasia, pelvic prolapse, poor healing, scoliosis and chronic pain etc.  My mother and grandmother both have EDS as well, and also have spinal stenosis.  Is this possibly related to the EDS as well? We are only just finding out now that many of our families health issues are related to the hypermobility.  We are hoping to get some genetic testing done as we just found out my granddaughter has a mother with EDS and a father with Marfan.....

Hi Inanna

I too have EDS (type III but may have to be tested for the vascular type as my aunt has just had a burst artery and she also has EDS).

YES, in my opinion (I'm not a medical bod, but I have just returned from a weekend Hypermobility conference with the experts, and I do keep up to date on the subject) everything you list is ABSOLUTELY related.  These are all so typical of EDS.

Test yourself on the Beighton scale and see how many you score (you say you are Hypermobile).  Normally if you score highly on the scale, and suffer, then it is likely you have 'Hypermobility Syndrome' (considered equivalent to EDS Hypermobility type).

If there is Marfans in the family, then your grand daughter needs proper assessment!  With the parents both suffering from inherited connective tissue diseases, then she will need to see a connective tissue expert to get a diagnosis I would have thought.

I hope this helps!  Just some thoughts for you...
