Turner's Syndrome

Turner's Syndrome

Hi. I am 23 years old, and I am pregnant with my second child. My boyfriend and I went for a routine ultrasound when the baby was 20 weeks; however, we were told the baby has cystic hygroma as well as hydrops. It was devastating to hear the doctor tell us that the baby will more than likely die within the second trimester. The very same day the doctor did an amniocentesis; we received the news just this week informing us that our baby girl has Turner's syndrome. I'm now at 22 weeks, and I am concerned of the outcome given the fact the doctor told us that she has a 100% chance of not living past this month. How many babies can live through the problems she has? If my boyfriend and me eventually want another child, what precautions or suggestions from doctors should we follow?

I'm very sorry to hear that you're receiving such devastating news.  Unfortunately, the presence of a large hygroma and hydrops is not unusual with Turner's syndrome, but keep in mind it's nothing you did wrong, and sometimes nature has to take it's course, however difficult or unexpected it may be.

Give yourself and your boyfriend some time to heal and hold each other close.  Your baby having Turner's syndrome does NOT hurt your chances of eventually having healthy children.  Take good care of yourself, and I wish you all the best in the future.

May God bless you and bring you peace.

the same exact thing happened to me (lol same age and everything) and at 22 weeks her little heart gave out from the pressure and she passed away inside me. but not to worry ur next child will be just fine. i had my little girl with turners on nov 28 08 and i ened up getting pregnant again in jan of 09 (we were suprised too on how fast i got pregnant, we thought i would be atleast a couple months) anyways with ur next one u might end up seeing the dr a couple more times than "normal" or may be offered a cvs (chronic villi sampling-it tests for genetic abnormalities) i am at 33 weeks and so far had 3 ultrasounds and a cvs done and my little girl is healthly.

yes it will be hard to go thru if ur little girl passes away but give it time and ur heart will heal.
