Ultrasound: to re-check baby's brain

Ultrasound: to re-check baby's brain

Had an ultrasound January 18th. Were having another boy. A few days after the ultrasound my doctor called me. He told me they were fairly concerned and wanted to get another ultrasound of the baby's brain (2 cavities in the brain as well as a cyst). I'm going to a different clinic/hospital. Where I'm going to get to talk to a genetic counselor, do the ultrasound, and finally get to talk to a doctor. This is my second baby. My first baby is 9 months old. I'm 28 and my boyfriend is 31 years old. I've never been through this type situation before. On the genetic side, neither my family or my boyfriend's family has any history of this. I have alot of questions running through my head. What all exactly am I looking at? Like, when it comes to talking to the genetic counselor and if something is wrong with my baby. What exactly causes this to happen? Is it cause my babies are to close at age? Could this be a bad image or glitch in the last ultrasound? I'm just so emotional, nervous, scared, in the state of not understanding, and just really not sure what all I should be expecting. I feel as if I did something wrong in this pregnancy.

Going back to the different clinic/hospital at the end of the month. Going to talk to the genetic counselor, do the ultrasound, and talk to the doctor again. My doctors at the place I do my regular doctor appointments at don't seem to know what they are talking about. There is no cyst in the baby's brain. We all have two parts of the brain. A right and a left. One side of the baby's brain is bigger and has excessive fluid in it then the other. When I had the ultrasound at my regular doc's the level was a 9. When I had ultrasound yesterday the level was a 11. If it gets higher than where its at, it causes PROBLEMS! Thats the only thing that doesn't look right on the ultrasound. The doctor doesn't think its spina bifa cause everything else on the ultrasound looks good. I had to get blood work done ( one to check for infection and another one to check plateletes...if the doctors don't like the results of the next appointment than my boyfriend is going to have to get his blood drawn as well ).

Talking to a genetic counselor is frightening, Ive been there. Don't be afraid to ask them anything & everything you need to know. Don't leave until they have explained everything you need them to so you understand it & can explain it to others. Don't feel stupid for not knowing or needing further explanation or for just asking. I made these mistakes my first visit & didnt ask. Had to look for more info myself! Do whatever you need to feel comfortable with what news you get & go from there. That's the best advice I have after going through this. Good luck!
