are they identical

by cgricci, Sep 08, 2009 02:17PM
Two months ago I gave birth to twin girls.  The ultrasound techs always said they were monozygotic and the pathology report on the placenta said it was a monochorionic diamnionic fused twin placenta.  Does this in fact mean that they are identical?

HI there.  I have 7 year twin boys.   We had a similar situation the pathology also showed it was a fused placenta. though originally they thought they were identical because they were both born with a rate genetic abnormality.  Anyway the only way to know for sure is to do DNA fingerprinting. But a quick "test" is to check the hair swirls on the back of their heads.  If the hair swirls go the same direction then typically they are identical.
Congratulation on your beautiful girls.
