Conclusion:
Measurements are appropriate for gestational age of 18weeks 6days. EDD 7/8/08.
Choroid plexus cysts and echogenic intracardiac focus may be associated with chromosomal anomaly. Background risk for aneuploidy based on maternal age would be low and it remains low despite these findings. The nasal bone is also noted to be of normal length. This also reduces the lilelihood of chromosomal anomaly specifically down syndrome. No nuchal translecency assessment is available. No morphologic abnormality has been shown and the intracardiac focus has no bearing on cardiac function or morphology.
Has the OB or Radiologist interpreted the results in laymens terms to you? I don't really know what that is saying and would think if it was a high risk for complications the doctor would say something. Keep us posted on what the OB says.
No, I've been told nothing, went to my GP after getting the results as I didn't understand them, he told me nothing and wrote me a referral to the hospital where I went today only to sit around for 5 hours and still be told nothing. However they did send me for a blood test so will see what the results produce next week and take it from there is all the ob could say...
guess I will have to wait and see
It is not unusual to see 'bilateral choroid plexus cysts' and 'echogenic cardiac focus' on ultrasound between 16 weeks and 24 weeks. In most cases, these pregnancies have normal outcomes, normal babies. The concern is that in a smaller number of cases, these findings increases the chances of some possible problems for the baby.
Most likely the blood test you had was a triplescreen or quadscreen? If it was, you should have some more information by this time next week.
Also, you should ask your doctor about getting a "fetal echocardiogram" which is a detailed ultrasound between 20 and 24 weeks to look carefully at the baby's heart.
Most of the time an echogenic focus doesn't mean anything bad, but an ultrasound at 19 weeks is really too early to tell much about the development of the heart quite yet.
I hope your blood test gives you good results. The chances are in your favor that baby is OK... take good care of yourself!

The blood test was the triplescreem and results should be back by Thursday.
Doctors here really are usless and still haven't explained a whole lot to me. Thankfully have found a couple of really good websites which have been very helpful.
Did you find out any more information? My wife just had her ultrasound yesterday at 18 weeks and had similar results as yours. We have learned that both echogenic foci and choroid plexus cysts are indicators of possible risk for genetic disorders such as Down's syndrome, and I'm wondering if the existence of both of these factors means a higher risk. Any update you can give me would be nice.
