marfans

well, my boyfriend and I want to have a baby within the next couple years. I want to know if there is a chance that my child could get this disease....Marfans? My boyfriend doesnt have it but his father, three brothers, and his sister have it. What are the chances that our child could get it?

marfan syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder... surprising if you were to use mendels crosses to section... assuming that your boyfriends fathers genotype is Aa... A = marfan syndrome and a= normal... which seems to be the case if your boyfriend himself doesnt have marfan that means that he obviously got another a = normal from his mother (im guessing his mother was normal?) that would make is genotype aa = 100% normal/ non-carrier... so im sure the chances are close to zero... ofcourse this math was done off the top of my head in 5 mins... might want to go to a genetic counselor for confirmation

ok the other person is partly correct....
But Since your boyfriend's father has it, its most likely hes a carrier
since you do not have this your chances are...
Girl- carrier...maybe
Boy- half and half
I think..because a son will inherit from you and a daughter has you get it from both
but yeah go to a genetic counselor
