We recommend that you meet with a genetic counselor, who can review your personal and family histories in detail, your degree of relationship (the more closely you are related, the higher the odds of having a child with a birth defect), and your ethnic background (some conditions occur more frequently in people of certain ethnicities) in order to provide a risk assessment based on your specific situation.
