I'm dating my first cousin once removed and would like to know if there's any risk of serious disease for our future children since we're planning to get married. Genetically I think our case is quite different from the typical 'cousin marriage'. My grandmother married twice. my girlfriend descends from the first marriage, I from the second. So basically, my grandmother was her great-grandmother, my grandfather was nothing to her. Thanks for your help.
I posted an answer to this below. Here is my message:
This question is asked frequently, and the best advice I can pass along is that you speak with a genetics counsellor. Your situation is different then most, so it is advisable to sit down with a genetics specialist (doctor) and map out the family lines, to ensure your future children are not at risk for serious disease or syndromes.
I do often pass along this site, as it is very concise and helpful statistically as well as with percentages with respect to any possible problems genetically that you may pass on.

I hope this helps. If you need anything else, please send me a direct message, and hopefully I can help.
In addition to anything I have mentioned, please keep in mind, that while I or others may have extensive knowledge in many areas, you should always seek professional medical advice from your own physician, as it pertains to medical conditions or concerns.
Good luck, and if you have any other questions that I can help you with, please feel free to message me directly.
