Med as needed or ongoing?

I have been taking allopurinol at the onset of symptoms, continuing for about a week, the dicontinue till the next occurance. It is usually 6 to 8 weeks apart. Should I be daily?

Hi there!

Allopurinol is not a symptomatic relief medication like NSAIDS and works by keeping the uric acid levels low, thus preventing episodes. It is usually taken regularly in doses as prescribed by your treating doctor.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
