13 year old with a ovarian mass

My 13 year was rushed to the hospital in pain and they thought it could be the apendix but when the results returned of the CAT Scan they discovered a mass on her right overy that is 4.5cm and later they did an ultrasound I guess to confirm the findings in the CAT Scan, they also another mas 1.2 cm on her right Kidney.  My daughter is so young and I have appointments with 3 different Gyno because the one that saw her at the ER said that the ovary would probably have to be removed I am afraid for my daughter and want to know if removing the ovary is the only option?

Hi!
Absolutely NOT.  In fact, I would not let anyone touch my young daughter if she had a similar story.  The most likely diagnosis is a hemorrhagic corpus luteum cyst.  That means that she ovulated from that ovary this month, and for some reason when the follicle containing the egg ruptured to release the egg, she hemorrhaged into the cyst,  When this happens, the cyst fills rapidly with blood and causes fairly severe pain for several days.  Ultimately, the cyst starts to reabsorb (very much like a bruise) and as it shrinks the pain goes away.  If it were my daughter, I would give her pain medication to get her through the worst part, and then re-do an ultrasound in one month.  There is a VERY high chance that the cyst will be gone completely with NO SURGERY!

Thanks for responding, I am going to get all the opinions posible and I see I didn't mention it was an Echogenic Mass it is not full of blood or liquid that was confirmed with all the test that have been done. I have found a childrens hospital by me that I made an appointment for her to see the Gyno there.  Thanks again.
