16 Year Old Needs Period Help

Hi. I'm 16 years old and have had a pretty regular period. It's never been late for more than 2-4 days each month, except for one time when I was 14 where it was late by an entire month. But, now, my period has been late for a week and I'm a little bit worried. I can't possibly pregnant, so I don't know what it could be. I haven't been cramping or anything (I usually never cramp). What could it be?

Hi!
It is fairly common to have an irregular cycle now and then.  I ALWAYS do a pregnancy test just to be on the safe side.  But if you are not pregnant, it is probably caused by failure to ovulate this cycle.  In order for there to be a period, there must be an ovulation 14 days prior.  If for what ever reason ( stress is the usual culprit) you don't ovulate, the period won't happen.  You could call your doctor and ask for some progesterone pills to start your period for you, or you can just wait for next month's period.  Sometimes it is extra heavy or a little early to make up for the missed one.
If you go right back to your regular cycle, there is no need to worry.  If this starts happening frequently, you should probably see a gynecologist for a check up.
Good luck!

Thank you. Your comment was very helpful. Unfortunately, I'm still late and it's been 2 weeks now. I was sort of stressed out around the time that I was supposed to get my period--I stayed up till midnight every day for a week to finish a paper. But, I really haven't been stressed out lately and it still hasn't come.

What causes my body not to ovulate for a cycle?
