18 and an abnormal test

Well i had my first pap test and it came back with abnormal cells. I've only had sex with one person and we are still together. We are each others only sexual partners.  Does this mean i could have cancer. My doctor wants me back in 6 months for another test... i'm scared though

Hi!
You are incredibly mature for a young lady--congratulations!
Given your history, I think your risk for cervical cancer approaches 0%.
I have had one patient with a similar history who did test positive for HPV, and we never did satifactorily explain why--we just took care of the problem.

Abnormal cells can be caused by problems other than hpv too--for example, a yeast infection can cause atypical cells.  Your doctor is doing the right thing by asking you to return in 6 months.  In the meantime, don't worry!

Good luck!
Dr B

Your risk of getting cervical cancer is extremely low because you are under 25. It is also even lower since you've only had 1 partner, and you use condoms. Very likey, your body will clear your HPV infection before it can get to that point. In the meantime, use condoms (and diaphragm for extra protection), take at least 2,000 milligrams vitamin c, 1,200 milligrams folic acid, and 200 milligrams diindolylmethane (DIM) to help your body clear the virus. This worked for me.
