Abnormal bleeding

Hi, I have been bleeding for 3 weeks now, its started very lightly and almost stopped, about a week and a half ago i started very heavy periods and they are getting heavier leading to me leaking and having to start wearing a pad also. My partner has had the snip when i had my little boy who is 17 months. I am not on the Pill and cannot go on any contraception hence my partner had to have the snip. This is probably the worse my period has ever been. Im starting to feel sick and getting headaches and very tired. I did have a smear about 2 year ago and it came back abnormal and i had a colposcopy and they said it was low CIN, since I have had one more and they said no changes although I am late in having my next smear but cannot seem to book in as my periods wont stop! any ideas? PLEASE

Hi!
If you were my patient, I would re-visit the reasons that you cannot take oral contraceptives.  If the reasons are solid and sound, I would start you on progesterone for 14 days.  The progesterone will stop the period, and clean the uterine lining.
It will work a little more slowly than oral contraceptives would.

Once the bleeding subsided, I would do a complete exam pap and ultrasound.
If everything was OK, I would offer you a couple of options.

You might do very well with the Mirena IUD--many women love it.
An endometrial ablation might work also--this is a minor surgical procedure.
Finally, if there are fibroids, or other problems that are going to cause the bleeding to continue, I would offer you the option of a hysterectomy--that would stop the periods and treat the dysplasia simultaneously.

Hope this helps!
