I am 19 years old. My last period was in April it is now July 19. I am not abnormally stressed. I took 2/3 pregnancy tests. one was negative the second was blank. I am taking the 3rd in the morning. Why has it been so long?
Hi! If you were my patient, the first thing I would do is a pregnancy test. If that was negative, I would check some other hormone levels such as thyroid, prolactin and FSH. Many different types of hormone imbalance can cause irregular periods--often it can be a symptom of PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). We usually do recommend some form of treatment, such as oral contraceptive pills to regulate cycles. Good luck! Dr B
