Causes of Cervical Dysplasia

Are there other causes of cervical dysplasia besides HPV? I was recently diagnosed with cervical dysplasia after my annual pap. I have been in a very stable, happy, monogamous relationship for 15 years, but I have had several gynecological procedures (3 d&cs for missed miscarriages, 1 d&c for a polypectomy, multiple ultrasounds, a hysteroscopy) within the two years. In addition, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder which is partially responsible for my miscarriages and infertility.

Just wondering what the other causes of cervical dysplasia are, and if it could in anyway be related to my fertility issues? Or could HPV really lie dormant for 15 years?

Thanks

Hi!
I recently had the misfortune to diagnose a widow of 20 years ( with no contact after her husband's demise) with HPV.  So, the answer is YES, HPV can lie dormant for that long.  Usually the immune system keeps it in check, but if you have any problems with your immune system, it can flare.  So, that might explain its appearance recently.
There ARE possibly some other causes as well, although the vast majority of cases are caused by HPV.  There is also such a thing as congenital HPV--or being born with the virus, that could theoretically explain a rare case or two.
Good luck.
