Cyst Rupture Recovery time
I have a question as to how long approx. does it takes to recover from an ovarian cyst rupture. A little background, I had a TAH w/right ovary & tube removed for CIN III in 5/07, recovery was fine. In 12/07 daily pain from a peritoneal inclusion cyst. 2/27/08 removed left tube with PIC drained (couldn't be removed). 4 weeks post op, ovarian cyst pain confirmed by ultrasound (3cm). At 11 weeks post-op, cyst ruptured. The pain wasn't too terrible and I didn't go to the ER. The rupture was confirmed by Dr. doing an ultrasound in her office. Another ultrasound was done 9 days later for continous pain. There is still fluid around the ovary (2 weeks post rupture). The pain is slightly better but still is affecting my daily life. I cannot exercise and I am sick to my stomach all the time. How long can I expect this to last? And will BC pills (lybrel) help prevent ovarian cysts & also recurrence on the peritoneal inclusion cyst? It seems that the Dr. & radiologist are more concerned with the PIC returning but I am more concerned with the current pain. Thanks in advance for your advice!!!

Your pain may be from the cyst and its rupture, but it may be due to adhesive disease as a result of your surgery. In the case of the latter your pain may persist.
If in fact the pain is from an ovarian cyst starting a birth control may or may not result in cyst supression. The level of estrogen in modern birth control pills doesn't guarantee the inhibition of cyst formation. And it will not impact the recurrence of a peritoneal inclusion cyst.
I'd encourage you to continue to follow up with your ob/gyn regarding these matters.

Thanks for your reply. It has been a month since the rupture and pain has persisted. My GYN has me off of work and resting for 3 weeks to see if it helps. While the pain has lessen, it is not gone. She also asked me to see primary Dr. He has referred me to get a CT scan w/contract which will be done next week. My question is will the CT scan show adhessions, ovarian blood supply (Primary Dr. thinks that it is compromised), or other issues?? thanks again
