Depo and Pregnancy

Depo and Pregnancy

I have been on Depo for alittle over 5 years now to control my endometriosis. Is it possible to become pregnant while taking the injection. I have never had any issues while taking the injection other than a migraine for the first 2 days after receiving it. The past 2 weeks I have been feeling overly tired, nauseated and my breasts hurt. I noticed some blood after urinating as well. As previously stated I have never had any of these problems in the 5 years I have been on it. My doctor never once told me of any problems I may have other than the chance of osteoporosis . Is there any possibility or is this all in my head? I dont want to get excited for nothing though. I did take 2 HPT both with a negative result but I heard that the Depo will lessen the HCG and give my negatives even if I am with child. Its hard finding information and I have heard horror stories from women that have been on Depo for as long as me. I am between going off of it to have the chance of being a mother but terrified as I had so much pain I was in the hospital with every cycle. Can you provide any insite? Thanks so much and God Bless!!

Hello,

Depo, when taken on time, is a highly reliable form of contraception.  So, I suspect you are not pregnant.  The two negative HPTs support that as well.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

Thank you so much! I actually called my ob-gyn and they want to do a blood test since I have never had any side effects before and the fact that I was on an anti-biotic. They want to be sure before I take my next dose. I think however that this will be my last injection.
