Endometrial ablation and D&C

Endometrial ablation and D&C

Two weeks ago I had an endometrial ablation and a DC.  I was in the ER the day after because of high fever and my doctor said I had an infection.  I took the antibiotics for 7 days and then this week I was back in the ER because of severe abdominal cramping.  My doctor said the infection was not gone and gave me another antibiotic and some pain meds. The pain meds don't work too well as I am still in extreme pain, however, I am concerned because the pain seems to have moved from my abdomen to my back.  Is this normal?  I just started the new antibiotic 2 1/2 days ago, but I would have thought my pain would have lessened....

Hello,

If you are in extreme pain, you need let your doctor know and to return to the ER.  It may be that there was an unrecognized complication during your surgery.  If you are not getting better return to receive proper care.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

I had the exact same procedure done several months ago.  I'm happy to say that I did well and was only sore for a couple of days.  I'm sorry that you're having problems.  My doc put me on antibiotics for 14 days.  To me 7 days seems a little short considering what was done.
