Enlarged Ovary

Enlarged Ovary

I have been advised  today that i have an enlarged right ovary and small cysts on both ovaries. I am in a lot of pain an have really bad lower back pain. I have been referred to ob/gyn but was initially told that i would have a follow up ultrasound and that was it. I have been tearful all day as i feel like my pain isn't being taken seriously. Any ideas on what I should do next.
I would really appreciate any advice given.

Hi!
Whenever I have a patient with cysts, the first thing I do is watch to see if they will go away.  I usually like to ultrasound again after 4-6 weeks.  If at that point the cysts are still there or are getting larger, I would consider laparoscopy.
Back pain can sometimes be referred pain from the pelvic organs.  So, it could be cysts or endometriosis.  It could also be related to your colon--Irritiable Bowel sydrome is very common and can cause pretty significant symptoms.  You should Google that and see if you fit the picture.  Finally, could there be an issue with your spine?  Does the pain get worse when you cough or bend?  You might need an MRI.
A lot of times women blame things on there pelvic organs when they are actually inocent.
So, just make sure to consider all possibilities.
One of the best medications for pain of pelvic origin is Aleve.  If you take that and it doesn't help at all, that could be a sign that it is not pelvic.
I hope this helps!
Good luck!
