Fatigue and High Iron Level

Fatigue and High Iron Level

Hi there,

I am a 31 year old female and have been experiencing fatigue lately like I am pregnant (I am not).  My iron was checked and it's actually high 189 H and percent saturation is 55%.  My doctor said nothing to worry about but I am concerned.  I have very heavy periods- they are so heavy that I soak through a tampon every hour.  Could my hormones be causing my fatigue?  I am getting so frustrated b/c this has been going on for several months.  I should also mention that I am very healthy (used to be a personal trainer) and exercise regularly but find that I can't do the workouts I used to do 5 months ago.  I need energy to keep up with my 2 1/2 year-old.

Thank you- any advice would be appreciated.

Hello,

Perhaps having your thyroid checked would be helpful.

If you are bothered by your heavy menses (whether it is related to your fatigue I cannot say) you should talk to your ob/gyn about ways to help improve heavy menstruation.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
