Heavy bleeding during sex...

Hi! I have heavy bleeding during sex on ocassion. The sex is not "rough" nor is it near time for my period. Sometimes there is a sharp pain deep inside during sex. I also have lower abdominal pains and indigestion a lot lately. My family doc couldn't find anything wrong. Thyroid is fine. My gyno did pap (normal), uterine biopsy (normal) and put a chemical on my cervix which he said would stop the bleeding. I had a baby two years ago, this has been happening ever since. I was wondering, could this be some sort of infection not tested for on a pap smear? Or a uterine infection from my last child? I have been married for ten years and 100% faithful.

I did have a leep done 14 years ago for dyslpasia. My last gyno said he thinks it's just my cervix being irritated by sex, due to my leep, like a scab coming off...and not to worry about it, it's normal. I am wondering if I should have had an ultrasound by now? And i don't know if it matters, but my mom and grandma died of ovarian cancer. When it happens, there is a lot of blood, way more than a period. Should I be concerned? Thanks, Liz

This is not related to ovarian cancer, so no need to worry about that.  You have been worked up well.  An ultrasound may be helpful, also an office hysteroscopy (using a small camera to look into the cervical canal and endometrial cavity) which can look for a polyp that may be the cause of the bleeding.
