Hemorrahigic ovarian cyst

Hemorrahigic ovarian cyst

I returned from my gynocologist's office to find out I have a hemorrhagic cyst on my ovaries.  I am trying to find out more information about this.  However everywhere I look the only thing it says is it is just a cyst with blood.  What are the risk that come with having this sort of cyst?  The dr says it will take a while to go away but I believe it has been 6 months when should I be worried?  Can it cause alternative problems as well?  Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions!!

Hello,

A hemorrhagic cyst is a cyst on the ovary that has bled into itself.  It is a benign finding, not related to cancer or menstrual irregularities.  Sometimes they may cause pain, but sometimes they are innocent bystanders and suggested to be the source of pelvic pain in the absence of other findings.  They usually resolve on their own.  Sometimes they will persist or possibly enlarge requiring surgical removal.  It is not something to worry about.  They probably occur in all women at some time or another we're just not scanning them with ultrasounds to know.  See what happens in follow up ultrasounds.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

alew0228, About 18 months ago I had this type of cyst on my ovary with a functional cyst on the other ovary. I started taking 3400 mcg of folic acid and both cysts resolved by themselves. Just the name of that cyt was scary to me and I like you could not find much on the internet. My understanding folic acid is very good for the reproductive system. Good luck.
