Herpes Help!

I had some unusual symptoms the other night and decided to go to the gyno yesterday.

She told me i have herpes, took some blood and the tops of the sores from down there and i wont have lab work until friday.

But my boyfriend and i cannot figure out how this is herpes.
I asked the gyno if it could be anything else and she said no, she seemed convinced it was herpes.

I lost my virginity to my boyfriend over a year ago and he lost his to me.
Therefore we are the only people each other has been with.

We havent had sex in about a month and a half, maybe more.  We always have used condoms. Im also on birth control, i have been for the past year, but i skipped it for an entire month last month and started it again two weeks ago. I thought my gyno would tell me i was having complications due to my hormone levels.

Im extremely scared due to the fact she said it couldnt be anything else, but the facts just dont add up.

And this is the first sign of anything, on either of us.

Please someone help.  I cannot figure out how this could be herpes.

Do you let him perform oral sex on you?  If so it is possible to have genital herpes due to HSV1 (normally causes cold sores).  If you already have cold sores which more than 50% of the population does you would be immune to catching it down there, but if not and he has them he can give it to you by performing oral sex.

Yeah, but he hasnt preformed oral sex on me in MONTHS! we both cant even remember the last time that happened, and this is the first outbreak.

Ive had cold sores before (who hasnt?) but not in a while..

The thing that we cant figure out is that everything i read says initial outbreak occurs with in 2-14days of infection, and i havent had ANY sexual contact in over a month.

When i told my gyno that i hadnt had sex in over a month she stared at me confused, as almost as she didnt believe me, but she didnt offer any options other than herpes.

I suggest you go to the STD Forum and read some of the information the Doctor provides.  I've read that you can have it for months or years before you show symptoms.  But probably most people's symptoms are so mild they dismiss it for something else.  The only way you will know for sure is a culture or a Herpes Select Blood Test.

I was diagnosed with genital herpes about 10 years ago. I was with 1 guy for 2 years, and he never had any symptoms. It would be years between outbreaks for me until about 2 years ago, they started coming regularly.  The strain can lie dormant for up to 5 years and it can be passed with no symptoms. You can also have lesions inside your vaginal area, like on your cervix, so you never see some outbreaks. You may just have additional discharge. If he had a cold sore, or was about to get one, that could have passed it along. Make sure he is honest as well with you as to wether or not he has been with anyone else. He, or even you, can contract it and pass it on without either party having any symtoms (symptoms).

If it wasn't through oral sex then I would really be having a conversation w/ my equally "first time" boyfriend and ask him to be honest. Assure him that you are asking for your health reasons and need him to just be up front. He is still at risk even though he has shown no symptoms. It takes men longer to show symptoms of GH.

Let us know how it goes.

Just 2 weeks ago my best friend went to her doctor because she had sores near her genitals. She called me crying because her doctor said it was herpes. She is over 50 yrs old and married. She thought maybe her husband has had it and never mentioned it (they have only been married a few yrs). Turned out her doctor was wrong. Wait for the test results.

I suspect the boyfriend also. Perhaps you were his "first" but maybe not the first girl he had oral sex with & he's afraid how you'll react if he admits this. Just gors to show you can't protect yourself enough. you have to assume that every body is a threat no matter how much they try to tell ther's NO WAY you could possibly get anything
