I want to make sure I am being proactive.

I want to make sure I am being proactive.

I am a 37 year old mother of two healthy children. About two years ago, maybe less I started having lots of pelvic pain. It has really been written off as I am just an unfortunate who has lots of pain before, during and after my period. As of Feb of this year I started to lose weight, 50lbs. since then. I have not changed any of my eating habits, no stress, no depression. My Doctor and I have done blood tests to make sure my thyroid is alright as well. I work in a laboratory, so I have ran all possible tests that we do in house, and all seems fine. I had a pelvic/abdominal CT scan done earlier this week everything was normal but for the following...
Uterus in anteverted
leiomyomatous/uterine
Uterus appears uneven in density
Right Ovary measures 2.73
Multiple Follicular Cysts
Left Ovary not identified

The cysts are pretty normal so far as I know as well as the leiomyomatous is fibroid tumor, correct? Why would the left ovary not be identified? The radiologist did suggest an ultrasound for my uterus. I understand that unexplained weight loss has a pretty high percenage of being left unexplained, but I do not want to drop the ball if something is going on. What else should I be looking at and/or doing?
Thank You so much for your time.

Hello,

Sounds like you are doing all the right things.  You CT results suggest you have uterine fibroids (smooth muscle tumors of the uterus, benign in nature).  Sometimes, ovaries are not well visualized on CT.  A pelvic ultrasound is a more sensitive test to evaluate the pelvic organs.  I would encourage you to keep working with your doctor to look for causes of your unintentional weight loss.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
