ITP with PREGNANCY

I m 6weeks pregnant my problem is that i have a low platelet count i would like to know does it affect my baby any how and is there any threats to me. My count is usually between 10000 to 20000.

Hello,

If you have ITP in pregnancy (the levels you report are too low for simply gestational thrombocytopenia) you should have a consultation with a high risk phyician.  You will need treatement for the ITP no different than if you were not pregnant.  It is possible your infant may have issues with thrombocytopenia (e.g., intracranial bleeding) that will need to be considered as you approach delivery.  Also, an anesthesia consult should be obtained well in advance of your delivery as an epidural or spinal analgesia may not be an option depending upon your PLT count.

I suggest  you seek further counseling from your ob/gyn.
