IUD inserted during a yeast infection?

IUD inserted during a yeast infection?

So here's the deal, I have had a yeast infection for about 2 years. i have been given Gynazole (sp), miconazole, metronidazole, flagyl, fluconazole, and have also tried tioconazole, to no avail. So I stopped going to doctors for it. But now I want to get an IUD, and I am wondering if the IUD can be inserted during the presence of a yeast infection? I know certain infections are contraindications, but are yeast infections? I don't think they can spread to the cervix/uterus.

Hi!
I HATE those kinds of yeast infections!  Have you also tried probiotics, acidophilus, boric acid capsules, and dietary modification?
To answer your question, there should be no reason why an IUD would be contraindicated--you are correct that yeast rarely spreads into the upper reproductive tract.  If you are switching from oral contraceptives, that may help with the yeast problem.  OCs seem to make people more prone to yeast infection.
Good luck!

Thank you for your response! I have purchased some pro-biotics (acidophilus) a while ago but haven't taken them consistently, just now trying it out. I know the shelf-stable brand I have works because I did the "milk test" and it curdled the milk overnight, plus it's upsetting my stomach a little bit which I read is typical in the beginning of treatment. I've been meaning to try the boric acid. The yeast infection began when I was off and on antibiotics and oral prescription steroids for a few months.

I'm picking up my iud gyn-referral from my primary physician on Friday, hopefully. Thanks, it was difficult to find info on this topic even after scouring the web :)
