Laparotomy

Laparotomy

Hi there
During my pregnancy an abnormality was found in my pelvic area. This was considered to be a cyst which grew to be 17cm. I then had this drained 4 times during pregnancy (so I was lucky enough not to go through surgery while pregnant) Anyway after having my little boy I went to have a laparotomy to have the cyst removed. During this procedure the consultant found that it was not a cyst but an enlarged fallopian tube, which then had to be removed. The right fallopian tube was removed but my ovary and left tube was considered to me perfectly normal. I did have this discussed with me at the time but was heavily sedated. So my real question is what are the likely causes of this. I did have tests for STD's (results not yet recieved) but have been married and faithful for over 10 years.

Thank you for your information and knowledge.
I am still awaiting the results of my tests and have arranged a further appointment with my consultant which will involve an ultrasound to try to discover the reason for my operation,
Thanks again
