Lump between pelvic & stomach area

Lump between pelvic & stomach area

For the last two months, I've had a hard lump along the upper hairline that is about the size of a golf ball.  Originally I thought nothing of it, thought it was just some fatty tissue or something as a result of scarring from c-section/tummy tuck, but those were both 8+ years ago.

Now it's becoming a little bothersome when pressing on it and possibly with intercourse.  I say possibly because I had a hysterectomy 8 years ago and the pain I'm experiencing now is very similar to the pain I had prior to surgery, however it's not everytime.  Therefore I'm not sure if the pain is associated with the lump or not.  A combo of rough and or deep could also be the issue there.

I have an appointment next Friday with my OBGYN but I'm extremely curious what it might be.  I know it's next to impossible to speculate, but any response would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi!
I'm curious about your nick name--do you have two sets of twins?
WOW!
The nodule that you mention could be several things--including a hernia, a sebaceous cyst, an abcess (abscess) from an ingrown hair follicle, a lipoma (benign fatty tumor) or an endometrioma--which is a fluid filled cavity made up of endometriosis.  These tend to form very gradually over the years in scar tissue, and can become painful.
An ultrasound or CT scan may help to differentiate what the nodule is, and how best to remove/correct it.  I'm glad to hear you have an appointment, because it sounds rather large!
Good luck!

Thank you for the response Dr. B!

The name comes from me being a twin and I also have ONE set of twins.  :-)

I was able to get in tomorrow, thankfully.  It does seem pretty large, but it's under the skin and can really only be noticed when pushing on it.  It doesn't really protrude much.

My hysterectomy was actually due to endometriosis, but that was 8 years ago.  I would have thought if it was related, it would have started before now, if it is in fact an endometrioma.

I've read about cyst since 'it' appeared, but it sounds like cysts are more painful than what I'm experiencing.

The doctor said it could be a hernia (resulting from my c-section) and ordered a CT scan, which I go tomorrow morning.  I questioned the fact that it has been over 12 years since my c-section and he said it's more uncommon if they show up sooner rather than later.  That seems odd to me, but he's the doc!  :-)

It turns out that it's not a hernia...  now they're thinking lipoma or keloid.  From reading about both of them, neither seems to be 'extremely serious.'

The doctor scheduled an appointment with a general surgeon for this Friday.  I'm assuming that appointment will be to examine the knot, review the results of the CT scan, etc. and we'll go from there.
