Missed Pill & Period

I have been on the pill for about 5 years now (different brands over the course of those 5 years) and am normally pretty good with taking my pill daily.  This time I wasn't as careful and forgot to take the pill twice.  Once I made up for the missed pill and the second time I didn't realize i had missed one until the end of the pack.  I had intercourse twice in that time and neither time did my boyfriend ejaculate inside of me.

I am now two days late with my period.  I've taken a pregnancy test that has come back negative and am planning to take another if i don't get my period in a few more days.

Realistically, what is my risk for pregnancy?  If it isn't pregnacy, why am i not getting my period?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Hello,

Your plan to repeat the pregnancy test in a week is a good idea.  I wouldn't repeat it any sooner than that.  There is some risk of pregnancy having missed two pills.  Additionally, the "pull-out" method is not a reliable form of birth control.

There are many reasons why a woman may miss a period or have a delay in menses.  However, while on the pill you should have a bleed during the week you're taking sugar pills.  See what happens in the next couple of days.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
