Night sweats during menstrual cycle

Hello Dr.

Hello I'm a 28 year-old healthy woman and I've started to experience mild night sweats about three days before my menstrual cycle. They sometimes last throughout my cycle-about 5-6 days. This has been going on for about three months. I also get hot flashes-not many, maybe one or two from the chest on up late in the evening. Is this normal or should I be worried? Thanks!!!!!

Hello,

You should be tested for premature ovarian failure which would involve checking a FSH, LH and estradiol level on day 3 of your menstruation.  You'll want to have your thyroid level checked as well.   An ob/gyn or endocrinologist can evaluate you for this and based upon the results give you some insight into whether you should be worried about your symptoms.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
