Novamoxin and Conception

Novamoxin and Conception

My doctor has had me on novamoxin for 13 years (for dysmenorrhea).  I recent found out that novamoxin can have permanent effects including inhibiting you from conceiving. Is this true?

Hi!
Phew, I was wondering what sort of doctor would prescribe antibiotics for dysmenorrhea!
If my patient was having trouble conceiving, I might tell her to stop using Naproxen.  There is some theoretical data that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications could inhibit rupture of the follicle that occurs during ovulation.  All the effects are temporary though, so once someone has stopped using the medication, it should no longer affect fertility.
Naproxen is similar to Motrin or Nuprin or any of the other anti-inflammatory agents that are used to relieve menstrual pain, and it is very safe and works very well.  It is my number one choice to prescribe for dysmenorrhea.
If you are at the point in life that you are "trying" you could still use it during your periods-- just not during ovulation.

Good luck!
Dr B
