Ovarian cyst

Ovarian cyst

I have a 3 cm cyst on my left ovary.  I currently have a paragard iud.  I can not have any hormones now because of my blood pressure.  I have been bleeding for 2 months now and I do have sharp pain but nothing constant.  My sister had cervical cancer and my grandmother passed away at the age of 44 of ovarian cancer.  I also have a suspicious thyroid nodule that we are watching.  My obgyn said the cyst is nothing to worry about.  He even suggested not doing another ultrasound on the cyst.  Just wondering what plan of action would you suggest.

HI!
I always like to repeat an ultrasound for peace of mind.  You have a 95%+ chance that the cyst will go away, but I always like to see it gone.  When ever we ultrasound a young woman, we almost always find cysts.  We almost never need to operate on anything smaller than 8 cm.  If the cyst is simple ( just a fluid filled cavity ) then it is almost guaranteed to be benign  But, once I discover something, I feel bound to follow it up.  Also, have you considered a Mirena IUD instead of a paraguard?  They do release a tiny bit of progesterone, but not enough to affect blood pressure, and they make your periods go away.
Hope this helps!

I forgot to mention.  I am 30 years old.  I had 2 csections.  First birth was at the age of 20.  I started cycling at the age of 10 years old.  Not sure if that is all needed.  Thanks again.

I saw your posts on a message board and I am looking for people in my situation who may be able to help me, by providing insight from personal experiences.

For a few months (minimum 3, but I believe it was even longer) my period was messed up--rarely coming and when it did, it was a strange color discharge. Two doctors insisted it was the birth control that I was on, and both tried to just switch prescriptions. However, on top of all of the weird period issues, my very low stomach felt like it was getting bigger and bigger all the time. I took many pregnancy tests (at home and at the doctors), all of which turned up negative. I even started dieting more and I work out regularly, but I feel like no matter what I do, my lower stomach still looks like that of a pregnant woman!

Do you think any of this designates sign of ovarian cysts? What was your discovery process like?

Thanks so much,
Katie
