Pap test and bleeding

Dear Dr, I had pap test done on 31 Jan, when the Dr remove the speculum, a lot of blood was on it. I didnt feel pain at the time and I just had my period a week ago, im on the pill. 2 days later, 2nd of Feb, i staredt to have a mild pain on my pelvic bone area on the right side, same height as my belly button, so right of belly button and near the bone area, the pain is still going on now, but not all the time, it comes and goes.

I noticed that the Dr didnt wash her hands before wearing the gloves and she opened the brush without gloves on her desk before moving it to the bed. I live in Australia, so pap smear is done by General Practioner instead of gynecologist.

Im worried that because i had bleeded and there is a wound, and the Dr wasnt that clean with the pap test procedure that i might have infection. Im worried about 2 things:

1st that i might get pelvic inflammation because of this mild inconsistent pain on my right ab
2nd that the speculum might have cause damage to my cervix or uterus.

my previous pap test was done a year ago and it was normal. STD test was done a year ago and normal and i didnt change sex partner. I have recurrent yeast infection that comes up every 1-2 months.

could pelvic inflammation cause by normal bacteria introduced during pap test? Should i go and see another Dr about this? Im planing to have a kid in a years time, so im worried about pelvic inflammation disease and it can cause ectopic pregnancy etc and i read that the symptom can be mild. It scares me to go back to the GP again and get test done again. What should I do.

Thank You.

If you had PID you would know. It is extremely painful. I had it and I had a fever, i was white as a ghost as the pain was soo painful.. It doesnt sound like you have that.

Thank you doctor for the reply. I still have cramp 2 weeks after the pap test and when I had sex, the pain gets worse afterwards.

What does test for PID involve?

Thanks

Hi!
I have never seen a reported case of pelvic inflammatory disease caused by a speculum/pelvic exam.  There is no reason NOT to be tested for PID if you are having symptoms -- the test would be helpful either way!  Speculums and pap brushes are not normally sterile, because the vagina is not a sterile environment.  You also state that the practicioner wore gloves, which is standard.  Bleeding after a pap smear is common, and nothing to be too concerned about.
Hope this helps!

Hi Dr, the inconsistent pain has also moved down to lower right ab, so lower than belly button now. Its like a period cramp, but i dont have my period and i dont usually get period pain during period.

Thanks
