Pelvic Ultrasound results

These are the results my pelvic ultrasound...".....the uterus is nomal in size & shape with one small serosal hypoechoic mass suggesting a uterine fibroid, 1.1 cm by 1 cm by 0.8 cm......endometrial stripe is 2-3 mm.....the ovaries are identified and are normal with the largest left ovarian cyst 1/2 cm in diameter.  The right ovary measures 2.8 cm by 2.0 cm by 1.7 cm and left ovary measures 2.5 by 2.4 by 2.3 cm....IMPRESSION:  small serosal nodule on the uterus suggesting a small fibroid, otherwise normal ultrasound of the pelvis...  My history is a few months of abdominal bloating with distention (I thought I was gaining weight).. with dull achey left pelvic pain (sometimes intermittent), increased constipation, a feeling a fullness and heaviness in the left pelvic area and left groin... I am a 56 y.o., 2 1/2 yrs. menopausal.  Another fact is that I have had one pregnancy, one child (at age 30)... never diagnosed with endometriosis, however, had very painful periods and periods of on and off pelvic pain for years....  And did have ovarian cysts when I was menstruating.
Question:  How would you approach this, given my history and menopausal status??....should I be more concerned???  What would be your next step in diagnosing??  What are your thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your info.

Hi, I am a 39 year old lady who has had heavy periods for the past 9 months. I have never had a problem with them before. I have been suffering also from constant pelvic pain, bloating, nausea, intermittent constipation and diarrhoea. Pain on intercourse and constant stabbing pain in the vagina and sometimes cant sit down.  It also hurts when I walk (I thought I had appendicitis). Fullness on eating. My consultant thought I may have early Crohn's so he sent me for a CT scan. The results came back and he said I have a 3cm ovarian cyst and was sending me for an Urgent Ultrasound scan !I also severe have low back pain and tired most of the time. My neck really hurts just under my mastoid bone on the right hand side all the time also. I am worried incase it is ovarian cancer and my lymph nodes in my neck are involved. My plateles are slightly high also. My tummy hurts behind belly button and sometimes I cant even touch my lower stomach cos it feels like I am being stabbed with something sharp along with the constant aching.

Would be grateful for your thoughts ? as I am extremely anxious.

Thank you

Hello,

You have a normal pelvic ultrasound.  I'd be interested in your physical exam.  If your exam findings were as unremarkable as your ultrasound I'd begin to think of non-gynecologic causes of your symptoms, specifically gastro-intestinal causes.  Have you had a colonoscopy yet?  If not, initial screening is recommend at age 50.  If your symptoms were related to a gyn cause, like an ovarian cyst or ovarian cancer I'd expect advanced findings easily detected by ultrasound or cat scan.  Continue follow up with your gynecologist regarding your symptoms.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
