Post-Pregnancy Passage of Tissue

Post-Pregnancy Passage of Tissue

I am 29 years old. I have had 2 pregnancies and 2 live births. I gave birth almost 3 months ago to my 2nd child. I had very heavy bleeding post childbirth. Once I got home from the hospital, I was nursing and every time I would nurse, I would pass very large amounts of blood(filling a pad within about 30 minutes). I stopped nursing when my son was 2 weeks old because of the heavy bleeding and it stopped. I started menstruating again when my son was 1 month old and have had 2 menstrual periods. my next one should start in about 5 days. I have been passing small pieces of tissue when I use the restroom since about 3 weeks post partum. At first, I was noticing them about 1-2 times per weeks, but for the last week I have been passing them every time I use the restroom. Sometimes, they are tinged with blood and sometimes there is no blood at all. They are about the size of a dime. I have also been bloated for about a week.

Hi!
If you were my patient, I would be quite concerned about the possibility of retained placenta (afterbirth).  I would call you in for an ultrasound scan ASAP.  If any retained tissue was present, I would recommend a D&C.  If there is no retained tissue, sometimes the condition can be due to sub-involution of the placental site" which can sometimes be treated with medications.
I would definitely recommend informing your doctor about the bleeding, as it sounds like it is more than normal post partum flow.
Congratulations!
