Removal of right ovary

Hello Sir/Madam,

I am very thankful for this website. When I was 10 years old, I sufferred from appendicitis. So, I had appendectomy.  During this procedure, doctor found one cyst in my right ovary. So, doctor advised to me to undergo removal of right ovary and I had that surgery also. Can you please tell me, is there possibility to give birth to a child? My parents are worrying about me. So, please tell me, what I have to do? just because of this, I am not getting married.  Now my age is 34. Please advise me what I have to do?

Hello,

If you have one ovary remaining, then yes, you can still achieve a pregnancy similar to if you still had two ovaries.  If you can see an ob/gyn that will likely be helpful to you.  You should probably go with your mother so that she can be informed as well.  Best regards,

I'm very sorry to hear that. I just had my right ovary removed this month on the 9th. I had a misc. and I had a dermoid cyst twisted on the overy at the same time. I was in a lot of pain and the doctor removed it. I didn't want because I want to have a child first, but I didn't have a choice to live with it either because I was going to be sick. Anyway, I had a chance to discuss with my doctor before taking the decision. She said there's a lot o women out there that can still get pregnant with one ovary.  The only thing you need to make sure is that the other ovary should be fine and you need to see your gyn. to discuss all the options with you, you still have a hope if you have your left ovary and uterus working fine. Because although we are born with two ovaries, we only conceive with one ovary. Just pray and talk to your doctor.

I am so sorry to hear about everything that you have had to go through. I am 18 years old, and oddly enough, I have gone through the exact same thing as you. I had appendicitis at age 17 as well as 2 cysts on my right ovary measuring up to almost 9cm's. I will be removing my right ovary in 3 weeks as well, so I can definitely relate to what you are going through. I just wanted to reassure you that even though you have one ovary, your chances of conceiving are just as high as if you had two working ovaries. When one ovary is removed, the remaining ovary picks up the work of the missing ovary. Right now, had you had 2 working ovaries, your right ovary would be working 50% and your left ovary would be working 50%. Since you only have one ovary left, your left ovary picks up the slack and works 100% of the function. I would book an appointment with your OBGYN just to be sure that you are able to still hold a child in the uterus - that is the biggest problem for woman, it's not the conceiving that is the problem, it's holding the baby in the uterus. Definitely book an appointment with your physician to go through all of your options. And please, if getting married is a dream of yours, do not hold off on it just because you have been faced with this obstacle. I had similar feelings before I met my boyfriend and I now know that known of it matters - he supports me and he has been here for me every step of the way. If i have troubles conceiving, him and I will do it together. I really feel like I have found my soul mate,  I know I am young, but when you feel it, you just know. And if that's the case, soul mates are there through thick and thin, till death do you part. Keep your head up and know that you do not have to minimize your own dreams because of an obstacle you are facing. It's a hard thing to have to deal with, but when the right man comes along, it will be so worth it and you will be so thankful and grateful that you did not give up on the greatest things in life.

hi there, i just  wanted to add that u should not worry ..when i was 17 i had an ovary removed because of a cyst and  and i  thought my life was over because my chances of having a child were cut in half  but now  at the age of 32 i'm the mother of 5 children ...i'm so blessed ...  dont let this get you down .. there's always hope .

I just had my left ovary removed this past August and I'm doing great! Of course I am a child free person and never wish to conceive so I'm not really worried about my fertility.

However my great aunt had her right ovary removed in the early 1940's and she went on to have 5 children! So yes you still can conceive without problems.

it is true that if the left ovary removed then the right ovary remain, and if you give birth all are baby boy? I mean all are male

Are you for real??  The sex of the baby is determined by the x and y chromosomes. the sperm provides the y chromosome for male babies so the female has no bearing on the sex of the child. I hace just one ovary and had no problems having children, i fact i think the above oerson should complain re lack of information post-op
