Uterine Spams

Uterine Spams

For the past several months, I've been having what feel like uterine spasms.  They occur at different times of my cycle, and sometimes can be quite strong.  I have a couple uterine fibroids, and wondered if they can be the cause, and if so, why?  What else can cause them?  I'm  51, and continue to have regular periods.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Hello,

Uterine spasms is an unusual complaint.  Generally, fibroids cause pain due to their size and location, putting pressure on surrounding structures, or from degenerating (lossing blood supply) and causing severing burning pain.  Your symptoms may be related to your bowels, bladder or other gyn organs.  I suggest you get examined by your ob/gyn and provide a complete history to help sort out the cause of your symptoms.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
