Vaginal Discharge

Vaginal Discharge

I gave birth to my daughter a little over 2 weeks ago (my first child), and am still bleeding, which is to be expected. The strange thing is that the blood, or whatever it is that is coming out, smells sweet. Is that normal? What does it mean?

Thanks!

Hi!
Everyone's sense of smell is a little different, but if you were my patient, I would tell you that as long as the odor is not foul, you are probably fine.  The discharge is called lochia, and continues for quite some time after  child birth.  Usually nothing to worry about, but your doctor could check if you are concerned.
Good luck!
