What is the safest and most effective birth control?

Hello,
I am currently 8mos. pregnant with my 2nd child and me and my husband believe this will be our last child, but do not want to make such a permanent decision yet (like a tubal or vasectomy) just in case we decide for one more in a few years. Me I have been on every pill it seems like and even the lowest dose of hormones make me feel as if I am pregnant and have mild morning sickness feeling. I would love to get Mirena, but I have mild cervical dysplasia and I am afraid to implant anything into my cervix (if I am even allowed to) out of fear of getting some of the side effects associated with using Mirena. The depo shot I have also been on and it was horrible for me. I have no tried the ring yet and I am open to that. I would just like to find a birth control out there that is effective and doesn't throw my hormones out of wack or carry a great deal of side effects. Any suggestions?

Hi!

My patients have almost uniformly loved the mirena.  Although you DO want to be sure your pap is clear before you have it inserted as it may need to be removed if you have to have colposcopy.

The ring has worked well for some of my patients.  Others have disliked the discharge associated with it.

The mini pill seems to act like a mild version of the Depo shot, so would probably not be your best bet.

If your pap is good after the baby is born, why not try the Mirena?  It is very easy to remove if you don't like it.  Just check on insurance coverage.

Unfortunately I don't know of too many NEW/side effect free options

Good Luck!
