Worried I might have PID

Worried I might have PID

I went to the doctor in early february after having vaginal discharge, odor, and discomfort. I suspected HSV. But the doctor told me that I had BV, and prescribed me Metronidazole. I took the meds and felt better for a few weeks. Then I noticed in March that My symtoms (symptoms) returned. I tried to wait and see if they would get better on their own, but they didn't. I ended up waiting until early june to go back to the doctor. The doctor did another vaginal swab  and told me that I had bv again. The way he explained it to me, it didn't appear from the swab that I had any std's. HSV test came back normal. I have not had actual sex in almost two years, only oral sex in january. So I assumed that I only had BV. Once again he put me on Metronidazol. I have been taking the meds for almost 10 days now.
The discharge and most of the vaginal discomfort has subsided. I should also mention that I haven't had a regular period in almost 3 months. I was taking oral controceptives for almost a year, but stopped taking them in february. My last period was in march. There is no way I'm pregnant, because of lack of sex. I was taking the birthcontrol only to control my cycle because it has never been "normal".

So, this morning I woke up with a lot of pelvic/back pain and nausea. I'm VERY worried that I might have PID. I know there is no way to conclusively say whether or not I have it, but what are the chances that I do? when I went to the doctor last week, he didn't mention that I might have it. Infact I asked if BV can cause PID, and it said it was unlikely. It wasn't until this morning that I started feeling this pain. Could it be from my period finally about to get on track again? My breasts are sore, so I'm hoping this is all associated with my cycle. I'm tempted to go to the ER to get tested for PID, but I think I'm overly paranoid and becoming a hypochondriac. I just need to know what is the likelyhood that I have it.  I'm still on Metronidazol until tomorrow.

Thank you!

Hi!
First off, I ALWAYS recommend a pregnancy test--yes, even though!
Next I would do an exam (internal) and test for STDs.  It is quite simple.  If I were you I would definitely choose Planned Parenthood over ER though.

If your tests were positive for chlamydia or gonorrhea, I would treat you with antibiotics.
Similarly, if your uterus and/or ovaries were very tender on exam, I would treat you with antibiotics.

It is possible to have BV that clears and then comes back.  BV doesn't usually cause PID.  PID is usually pretty easy to diagnose on an exam too. It is quite rare (although I have seen it ) to get PID without having had recent intercourse.

It certainly is possible that you are about to start a whopper of a period since you haven't had one in 3 months.  I would also try to get you to re-start your oral contraceptives if I saw you in the office! They reduce the risk of getting PID and cancer of the uterine lining due to infrequent periods.

Good luck!
