Thanks so much for getting back to me so soon!
Yes, my mom does have a regular gyn and she was cleared of any infections.
When you say the discharge could be related to bladder leakage do you mean urine?
She says the discharge is sometime clear to brown and not thick but watery???
Hi!
Your mom is MUCH too young to give up on a full and active life!
It is still OK to go to the gynecologist even after a hysterectomy, and I think she should do so and soon!
If the discharge is related to a vaginal infection, a short course of antibiotic therapy will clear it right up.
If ( more likely ) the discharge is related to bladder leakage, there are some wonderful new medicines with minimal side effects that can work wonders. There are also some minor out-patient surgical procedures to suspend the bladder and prevent leakage when coughing sneezing and jumping. A gynecologist could determine which would be the most benefit to your mom and get her back out and about again in no time!
As far as dietary changes--restricting fluid intake can help. She should avoid caffeine and alcohol.
A lot can be done with exercise, physical therapy, biofeedback and bladder retraining ( for example emptying the bladder on schedule every hour ) if your mom is really opposed to surgery.
Don't let her stay home thinking that there is nothing to be done, and don't worry--the problem is EXTREMELY common (ever notice the Depends Isle?) so she should not be embarrassed.
Good luck!
