bleeding after menopause

My doctor did an ultrasound and for the second time found that the lining of my uterus
is a lot thicker than it should be at my age...62.  I had this done as a result of bleeding.
In your opinion, what causes this?

Hello,

Postmenopausal bleeding is always concerning and deserves an evaluation.  Causes of postmenopausal bleeding include endometrial polyp(s), endometrial hyperplasia (overgrowth of normal tissue) or endomterial cancer; additionally, sometimes women can have bleeding from atrophy (a too thin endometrial lining).  

The evaluation for this typically involves a physical exam, a pelvic ultrasound and an endometrial biopsy (sampling of the tissue inside the uterus to assess for hyperplasia or cancer), and when the biopsy is benign (ie, not hyperplasia or cancer) and the endometrial lining is thick, evaluating the inside of the uterus by hysteroscopy or sonohysterogram for a polyp.  

You should address these issues with your ob/gyn.

Is thickening of 7cc an indicator of cancer?

58 yr old parimenopausal woman with mass showing in an ultra sound.  My gyn tried to do a biopsy 2 times.  1st time in office and 2nd in office with dialation from pills taken prior to going, still could not do biopsy.  Said sac with fluid was there and stopping the procedure, could not enter very far into cervix .She is sending me to and oncologist for surgery to remove mass.  Is this a sign could be cancer?  It has been almost 4 weeks, have cramped ever since the procedures and back ache.  Worried.
