Hi Doc
i have this discharge that comes out mostly before my periods and gets worse after having sex. I went to a gynecologist nine months ago diagnosed with BV  with and was given some medication, three months ago i had intercourse and had white thick discharge in small amounts with a bad smell. i thought it was normal but after i hand intercourse again two weeks ago the discharge was heavy had mucus and really smelly. last week i got my periods and this week am not experiencing any discharge.
what am i going to do to avoid this experience from happening again because it was really embarrassing especially with the fact that i have to sit in class half the day and the other i have to be at work and i keep sitting and standing with the smell its really embarrasing and has really affected my social life. is there any counter medication for this problem

Unfortunately it seems that you will have to pluck up the courage to go and see your GP.  It sounds as if you need a course of antibiotics to clear it up! I dont know of anything you can buy over the counter so just try and be brave and go to your doctor.  Remember its nothing that they wont have heard of before, and the moment you leave that room you'll never see them again so you have nothing to be embarrassed about!

Good luck

Hi sorry im new to the website and still tryin to get the hang of this. Im 18 years old and suffer from bad discharge. Im sexually active, ive had STI tests done and everythings come back all clear. I get it occassionally but when i do, its thick, white and smells really bad. I researched on the internet and i think it might bacterial vaginosis or leukorrhea. I feel i cant talk to anyone about this as its embarrassing. I get really paranoid that other people can smell it and i get paranoid in the bedroom. Can anybody help me with this?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
HI!
One thing that can cause a profuse discharge and swollen glands is herpes.  Despite the three medications you were given, you were not treated for that.  The best way to test for that is a blood test--the HSV1 and 2 IgG and IgM levels.  I'm sure your doctor would be willing to order those if you asked.
There are some other more rare STD's that could cause symptoms, but those are, well, rare.
It is a bit unusual that you only have symptoms on the right--is there anything else going on with your right leg? If it is swollen I might be tempted to check for blood clots, although that would certainly NOT cause a discharge.
Sometimes after a severe infection it can take the symptoms awhile to resolve too, as the natural "good" bacteria--the lactobacillus recovers from all of the antibiotics.
I hope this helps!
