low grade dysplasia while trying to conceive

low grade dysplasia while trying to conceive

hi! i was diagnosed with low grade dysplasia 6 months ago. i was 19 then, 20 now. my doctor did a colposcopy after my pap smear came back abnormal. he said everything looked fine and when the biopsy results came back it was a result of low grade dysplasia. he told me to come back in 6 months for another colposcopy. i had that 6 month appointment today and he said everything looked the same as it did last time he saw me but couldnt tell me anything until the biopsy results came back. i got married 2 weeks ago and we right away started trying for a baby. other than this abnormal pap smear i am in good health and so is my husband. my questions are:

1. is it possible for this low grade dysplasia to get worse and should i be concerned about anything in regards to it?

2. will this affect our chances of conceiving a baby?

Hi!
It sounds to me as though your doctor is doing a good job.  I tell most of my patients the following:  There is about a 75% chance that the low grade dysplasia will get better on its own
(the hpv of course will always be there).  There is about a 10% chance that it will get worse and need treatment, and there is about a 15% chance that it will stay the same and persist as low grade.  There should be no effects on your ability to conceive and no problems with pregnancy or delivery.  We do recommend following paps during pregnancy and colposcopy if necessary.  I rarely do biopsies during pregnancy.
Hope this helps!
